Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

I am looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join my team of highly skilled multi-disciplined System and Project Engineers. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation, providing technical advice across multiple departments and plan future improvements to plant systems. The successful candidate will become responsible for and own all LV and HV apparatus on site, as well as being integrated into our project Engineering team to drive delivery of an exciting portfolio of improvement works within a highly regulated sector.
Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities
Provide the focal point and ownership for a portfolio of assigned systems and/or assets.
Maintain an engineering strategy for the assigned systems and/or assets to deliver long term health.
Make recommendations for system and/or asset investments.
Record, trend and analyse system performance monitoring data as appropriate and take the necessary corrective actions.
Specify the necessary periodic maintenance routines and spares holdings to meet regulatory, compliance and performance requirements and ensure satisfactory completion.
Produce and/or approve relevant documentation for assigned systems such as Technical Specifications, Work Instructions, Method Statements, Plant Item Operating Instructions, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments.
Produce and Manage modification proposals and act as the Nominated Responsible Engineer (NRE) for plant modifications.
Act as a consultant for projects undertaken on assigned system providing proactive technical support and ensuring smooth handovers to and from projects.
As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within their range of skills, knowledge, experience, and competence.
Comply with the site’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments and support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.
Work flexibly within the team and support and mentor other System Engineers to optimise the safe delivery of all specified Lifetime Plan activities to the required quality, time, and cost parameters.
Carry out timely investigation of events and review on-site and off-site events via the Operational Experience Feedback process, ensuring that relevant learning points are applied to assigned systems.
Qualifications:
A degree, Higher National Certificate (HNC) or other equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering field – Essential
Understanding of relevant engineering British standards and best practices – Essential
Experience of working on major infrastructure projects from a highly regulated industry – Desirable
Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution – Desirable
Working knowledge of CDM Designers role – Desirable
Project delivery experience – Desirable

The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
