Summary

Southwark Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Digital Communications Contractor to lead a two-month project aimed at improving our digital and social media output.

This role will involve creating compelling content (end-to-end production and delivery) and developing and implementing strategies to boost engagement, increase reach, and effectively communicate the Council’s initiatives and services. Key Responsibilities

Content creation: Produce high-quality, engaging content for various digital platforms, including social media, website, and email newsletters. This includes filming and photography out and about the borough of Southwark, acting as a “social media journalist”.

Channel selection: Making sure the right content is on the right channel at the right time.

Social media management: Support the digital media officer to oversee daily social media activities, including posting, monitoring, and responding to comments and messages.

Content curation: Create and curate a library of content for future utilisation.

Analytics and reporting: Working with the digital media officer to track and analyse performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of digital campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.

Utilising stakeholder channels: Exploring how the Council can utilise digital and social channels beyond its own, such as community Facebook groups and partner’s channels.

Training and handover: Provide training to staff on best practices in digital communications and ensure a smooth handover of ongoing projects and strategies at the end of the contract. Skills Required

Proven experience in digital communications, social media management and content creation.

Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.

Excellent editing and content creation skills.

Ability to analyse data and generate actionable insights.

Confident with people to gain their trust and the ability to work independently.

Familiarity with local government operations and public sector communication is a plus.
