Senior Residential Care Worker

Our Fife based client require a Senior Residential Child Care Worker to undertake the day to day physical and emotional care of young people who are vulnerable and may experience emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Working as part of a team throughout Fife, you will be a role model for all staff in relation to professional work and presentation and key duties will include:

• Take responsibility as a shift leader ensuring policies, procedures and routines are followed.
• Liaise directly with manager/senior staff in relation to any aspect of work that affects quality of service to young people.
• Additional responsibilities will be agreed i.e. responsibility for budgets, monitoring medication routines, auditing reports and weekly records, arranging transport and ensuring rotas are balanced and covered.
• Support colleagues to fulfil responsibilities as care worker, including report writing and care planning.
• Liaise with colleagues from other teams/houses as required to ensure high quality service.
• Be involved in day leader role.
• On call responsibility as required (an additional allowance is paid for this).

Key responsibilities will include:

• Physical care. Meeting or seeing that physical basic needs are met (personal hygiene, food, clothes, safety, and warmth).
• Emotional care. Assess and create an environment in which young people feel safe, can express their feelings knowing that they will be accepted even when their behaviour is unacceptable.
• Being a responsible adult for 1 or 2 young people. Taking responsibility for ensuring that young people have an assessment plan which culminates in an individual care plan.
• To be responsible for the regular reviewing of the care plan with the care team, parents/carers and other responsible people.
• To work in partnership with the teaching staff – supporting young people to remain in school. Young people should be actively encouraged in all aspects of their education, vocational training or employment.
• To arrange and participate in evening, weekend and respite activities, planning your input in advance.
• To participate in writing in young people’s files, the daily log, fortnightly summaries, compile reports for and attend 6 monthly reviews, case studies, children’s’ hearings and focus groups.
• To attend supervision, taking joint responsibility for the agenda and identifying future training needs.
• To attend and participate in team meetings, handover meetings and staff meetings.
• To administer medication in line with company policy and procedures and actively encouraging young people to avoid health risks and to develop a healthy lifestyle.
• To develop skills/knowledge in delivering supervision to individuals within your team.
• To ensure all members of your team adhere to the organisations policies and procedures.
• To be committed to working in a multi-disciplinary staff team.
• Being prepared to put the team work before your own individual interests.
• To give and seek support and feedback within a team setting.
• To lead on team decisions in order to offer consistency of care to young people.
• To lead and support team members in a professional and proactive manner.
• To carry forward and promote decisions made at a senior level for the benefit of our young people and staff team
• Maintain a wide range of contacts in developing a care plan for young people.

To be suitable for this challenging and rewarding role you will have the following key skills and experience:

• Comprehensive knowledge of the child care field in relation to child protection, care planning, risk assessments, reviews, children’s hearing system
• Relevant experience of working with young people who have complex needs
• SSSC Registration
• SVQ Levels 4 & 3 and HNC qualifications
• Ability to develop a good understanding of the policies and procedures that operate within the organisation.
• Commitment to providing the highest standard of care and ability to reinforce this to other
• Effective and professional telephone manner
• Good administration and care planning skills

In return you will receive a competitive salary of 33- 36k ( Depending on level of experience) + benefits . You will work on a shift basis as well as overtime being available.
