A well-established distribution company in Godalming is looking for a seasoned Bookkeeper to take over their in-house accounting function.

This is a sole charge role with a huge amount of variety, involving all day-to-day transactional activities, month end reporting and year end close. As such, it calls for someone with a suitably broad range of experience, encompassing everything from purchase ledger, sales ledger and reconciliations, to submitting VAT returns, preparing trial balance, and producing P&L and balance sheet.

What will the Bookkeeper role involve?

• Monitoring customer payments, posting receipts, checking and entering sales invoices, entering purchase invoices.
• Weekly reconciliations of bank accounts, posting Direct Debits, BACS payment run, debtor monitoring.
• Month end reporting, producing P&L and balance sheet, reconciling reports to trial balance (fixed assets, accruals, intercompany accounts), stock reconciliation and journal posting, petty cash reconciliation and posting, VAT return, EC Sales List.
• Year-end close preparing final accounts for submission to external Accountants.
• Staff expenses, ad hoc reporting, petty cash administration.

Suitable Candidate for the Bookkeeper vacancy:

• Broad range of transactional accounting experience plus exposure to month and year end duties.
• Capable of running the finance function of a small company completely independently.
• Knowledge of Sage 50.
• Available at short notice (1 week or less) for handover.
